First (and second) binding

Based on the needs of kids and their parents, Lil’ Kat snowboard binding delivers simplicity, ease-of-use, growth and value. This combination of adjustability with a single supportive strap means less fumbling with gear and more keeping up with big brother. EZ Feed ratchets and the integrated chassis/highback are easily adjustable to fit a host of sizes. Kids feet grow, why shouldn’t their bindings?

Comments about K2 Snowboarding Lil' Kat:

I bought two pairs of the lil kat with the Kandi snowboards, previous model year "pink" size small for my two daugthers. The back support has a horrible design. On the smallest size setting the back piece keeps falling off. It came off on the hill, comes off when you carry it and virtually impossible to put back if there is snow on it. On our first day out one back support piece fell off and now have a useless binding.

Comments about K2 Snowboarding Lil' Kat:

My daughter used Lil Kat binding last winter.

It's biggest advantage is that it is simple. At the same time, simplicity of its design is what makes it not work very well at the same time.

Starting with the positives, single strap design works well for smaller kids. No rocket science here, that's why most kid XS bindings are single strap. Releasing the strap also works well, though it might be easier for kids if it was just a little bit softer.

The biggest problem with this binding is interface between hi-back and base of the binding. After few rides up the lift, snow gets in, turns into ice, and then it's impossible to get it completely upright for the ride down the hill. Sorry if this is going to sound rude, but whoever designed it, probably didn't spend much time on the snow. That groove bottom of the hi-back is supposed to sit in when hi-back is upright screams "ice trap" in huge flashing neon letters. Once ice is in, it's hard to get it out. And while it is filled with ice, it's not possible to push hi-back fully upright.

Another thing I wasn't very fond of is mounting using only two screws directly onto snowboard (no mounting plate), offering 7 degree stance increments. While it might be a bit of overkill for smaller kids, I'd much more like to see standard four screw mounting using plate, and offering 3 degree stance increments.

If anybody from K2 is reading this, please discontinue this design, take Kat binding, scale it down to XS size, convert it to single strap. Don't change anything else. Current Lil Kat design simply doesn't work very well on the snow. It's OK for going down the hill once or twice in single day. But on about 3rd ride down the hill, it starts showing its bad sides.
